The Hijri months
A Hijri year has 354 or 355 days — about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year — so Ramadan and the Eids move earlier every year.

Umm al-Qura, moon sighting and arithmetic calendars
- Umm al-Qura is calculated in advance from astronomy and is used for official dates in Saudi Arabia.
- Many countries begin each month after the new moon is sighted, so religious dates there can differ by one day.
- The tabular (arithmetic) calendar follows a fixed 30-year cycle; it is simple but often one or two days off.
How to use the Hijri ⇄ Gregorian date converter
- 1Choose the direction: Gregorian → Hijri or Hijri → Gregorian.
- 2Enter the day, month and year — or press “Today”.
- 3Read the converted date and copy it with one click.
Frequently asked questions
Which Hijri calendar is used?
Umm al-Qura, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, built into your browser. If a browser does not support it, the tool says so and uses the tabular Islamic calendar instead.
Why can the date differ by a day from my country?
Many countries start each month by sighting the new moon, so their date can be one day before or after the calculated Umm al-Qura date — especially for Ramadan and Eid.
Why does day 30 sometimes not exist?
Hijri months have 29 or 30 days. The tool tells you how many days the month has in the calendar used.
