Handwritten signature image vs digital signature
- This tool adds a picture of your signature — the same as signing on paper and scanning it. It is quick and accepted for many everyday forms.
- A certified digital signature (PAdES, with a certificate from a trusted provider) proves who signed and that the file was not changed afterwards. It needs an identity provider and is not something a free browser tool can issue.
- For contracts, government or banking documents, ask the recipient which kind they accept.
How to use the Sign a PDF
- 1Drop the PDF you need to sign.
- 2Draw your signature or upload an image of it.
- 3Drag it into place, adjust the size, then click “Add signature” and download.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDF files uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened and changed by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, which also makes it safe for contracts, invoices and ID documents.
Is this a legally valid digital signature?
It is an image of your handwritten signature, like signing a printed page and scanning it. It is not a certified digital signature with a cryptographic certificate. Many people and companies accept it, but check with the recipient for official or legal documents.
Is my signature saved?
No. It exists only in this browser tab while you use it and is never uploaded or stored.
What about password-protected PDFs?
Encrypted PDFs cannot be edited here. Open the file in your PDF reader with its password, save a copy without protection, then use that copy.
