Which quality should I pick?
Need a hard limit such as 100 KB? Use a compress-to-size tool instead — it picks the quality for you.
| Preset | Typical use | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Small (60%) | Email, chat, forms | Much smaller; fine on phone screens |
| Balanced (80%) | Websites, sharing | Hard to tell apart from the original |
| High (92%) | Printing, archiving | Smaller than the original, near-identical |
Why WebP is the default
At the same visual quality WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG and supports transparency. If the place you are uploading to does not accept WebP, switch the output to JPG.
How to use the Compress Images
- 1Drop your images into the box or paste one with Ctrl+V.
- 2Pick the output format and a quality level (Balanced is a good choice).
- 3Compare the before and after size, then download.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it works even offline once the page has loaded.
Which format gives the smallest file?
WebP is usually smallest, then JPG. PNG is lossless, so it cannot be compressed with a quality slider; convert it to WebP or JPG instead.
Will my image lose quality?
Between 75% and 85% the difference is hard to see while the file is often 50–80% smaller. Keep a copy of the original if you need it later.
I need a file under a specific size. What should I use?
Use one of the “Compress to KB” tools (for example Compress to 100 KB). They find the best quality that fits under the limit automatically.
